PUC International Community Volunteer Program

At PUC IFL Spean Dek – Chamkar Doung, Cambodian and international volunteers help students use English beyond the classroom through conversation, cultural exchange, games, clubs and community events.

Volunteers do not replace PUC teachers or deliver official academic classes. The branch organizes or approves every activity outside regular class sessions.

Who can join

Cambodian and international volunteers aged 18 or above are welcome. You do not need to be a teacher. University students, graduates, educators, residents, visitors, professionals, creatives, activity facilitators, community members and current or former PUC students can contribute.

International volunteers should communicate comfortably in English. Cambodian volunteers need enough English for the activity they support. Teaching qualifications are welcome but not required for non-academic activities.

Ways to contribute

English & communication

Conversation Café, speaking clubs, pronunciation, storytelling, debate, public speaking and English games.

Cultural exchange

Share traditions, language, food, music, travel or university life. Theme nights are cultural exchange, not formal instruction.

Games & community

Quizzes, board games, team challenges, sports, movie discussions, karaoke and creative activities.

Creative & professional workshops

Propose photography, video, art, music, coding, design, entrepreneurship, digital skills or career conversations. Every proposal needs prior approval.

Events

Support festivals, International Day, open house, competitions, community projects, charity initiatives and performances.

Flexible schedule

Activities happen outside official classes, especially weekday evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and special event days. Join once, monthly, weekly or for an agreed project. A full academic term is not required unless a role needs continuity. The branch confirms each schedule in advance.

How to join

1. Apply

Tell us about your languages, experience, interests, availability and the activities you want to support.

2. Introduction

Selected applicants speak with the program coordinator about the role and safeguarding expectations.

3. Verification

The branch may request ID, contact and emergency details, relevant qualifications or references. Regular work with minors may require additional appropriate checks. Do not send ID documents through this form.

4. Orientation

Approved volunteers learn about safeguarding, communication, photography, emergencies, boundaries and activity guidelines.

5. Join the community

The branch matches approved volunteers with activities or reviews their proposals.

Volunteer code of conduct

  • Treat students, staff and volunteers with respect; follow the designated PUC staff member’s instructions.
  • Maintain appropriate adult–student boundaries. Do not discriminate, harass, bully or use inappropriate language.
  • Respect Cambodian culture and protect confidential student information.
  • Follow photography and recording rules; report safeguarding concerns promptly.
  • Attend sober and free from alcohol or illegal drugs; use facilities responsibly.

Safeguarding students

Student safety takes priority. Volunteers must never:

  • Engage in romantic or sexual behavior with students, use sexual or threatening language, or use corporal punishment or physical intimidation.
  • Be alone with a minor in an isolated or unapproved setting, invite a minor to private accommodation, or arrange unsupervised meetings.
  • Transport a minor privately without explicit school and parent or guardian authorization.
  • Exchange inappropriate private messages or request unnecessary personal information.
  • Publish identifiable student images without required school and parental permission.

Activities involving minors must be approved, observable and appropriately supervised. Report safety concerns immediately to the designated safeguarding contact; do not investigate them yourself. Serious breaches may result in removal and notification of guardians or authorities where appropriate.

Photography & social media

Record activities only when PUC IFL Chamkar Doung authorizes it and required consent is in place. Do not independently publish identifiable images of minors. Official material may appear on approved branch channels.

What volunteers may receive

Orientation, a participation certificate, hours record, networking and cultural exchange opportunities, and recognition for significant contributions. A reference or confirmation letter for substantial satisfactory service is at the branch’s discretion.

Cost & compensation

The program is generally unpaid and has no application fee. Any exceptional paid role, reimbursement or sponsored activity must be agreed separately in writing.
